To start, cut 6 strings in 3 colors, 2 strings per color, each about 30 in/76 cm. Secure your string 6 in/15 cm down from the end. Those will be your ties.Tie 10 forward knots with your first color to make a mini chinese staircase. Then separate your strings into 3 sections, 1 color per section, and braid them. I do 10 crossovers for the braid (left 1, right 2, left 3, etc) to make it the same length as the chinese staircase section. Take your second color and tie 10 forward knots. Then do another braided section. Keep repeating until you reach the length you want. It really depends on your knot tension, but for me, 6 chinese staircases and 5 braided sections brought me to about 6 in/15cm, so I just ended it there. Make the last section a chinese staircase to make it easier to make the ties. Braid or twist both ends. |
