@sage-wolf yeah, you just use less strings. I think for 4 colours it should be easy to adjust the pattern. You'd just use 6 strings instead. I'm not sure which changes you would need to make for 5 colours/7 strings. It might be a bit more difficult.
as a tipp (not only for this one, but all patterns with these "loops" in between): Take a pen or similar shaped object (I use a screwdriver), that gets a bit wider the further you push it in. helps a lot to round them out!
