@natbunny thanks! i'm generally pretty happy with how it turned out. and! i was suprised to find out that the gaps were actually pretty easy! i just carefully pulled the string up towards me (instead of away from me) and the knots set well. i had to do this for three colours after the one forming the gap so I'd be sure it won't deform. it was fun!
