I love this so much but based on my other bracelets that are 6-7" and 70-85 knots long, this would end up being 9.5" without the ties😭 I'm going to try to split my 6 strand floss into 3 or 4 strand to see if that makes it small enough for a 6-7" bracelet.

@lindsey_bb Oh, none taken! The folding fan, like the ones I've depicted above, was invented by the Japanese with dates ranging from the 6th to 9th centuries and was later introduced to the Chinese in the 10th century by a Japanese monk from Japan as a tribute during the Northern Song dynasty. The folding fan later became very fashionable in the Ming dynasty; however, folding fans were met with resistance because they were believed to be intended for the lower class and servants. Later in the 11th century, Korean envoys brought along Korean folding fans which were of Japanese origin as gifts to Chinese court. So the Japanese "sensu" or "ōgi" and the Chinese "zhé shàn" both fall under the category of "folding fans (silk folding fans, paper folding fans, sandalwood fans). So! Long answer short: folding fans originated in Japan, but are also very popular in Chinese history. Hope that answers some of your questions lol 😂

@lindsey_bb just started reading the Wikipedia on hand fans. Folding fans like these seem to be a part of both Japanese and Chinese culture 🙂I'm not the one who made the pattern, but just wanted to share this with you. |

Are these Japanese or Chinese? Because I’m Asian American and I feel like someone takes a classically oriental pattern but doesn’t do their research it can be harmful. No hate, but your pattern is absolutely beautiful!
