@sophcharrr the 30" is measured from the leading string, then you make your loop and you have 30" on one side and all the rest of your leading string on the other side
@sophcharrr well you can't see it but I made a loop (you don't have to make a loop) and I left maybe 25" -30" of my string before I started the loop. So you've got the main skein with all the rest of your string and the 30" to make square knots with. For the cat part I just carried that extra string along with the base strings so you can use it for more square knots on the last part of the bracelet
