@Annouk depends on which technique you are using
You need 11 base strings
If you make the knots of the second colour using your base strings, you only need one leading string
If you make the knots of the second colour by switching to a different leading string, you need two leading strings

In all alpha patterns one leading string is counted in addition to the base strings
