Plus even a small throw rug would probably take about 400-500 strings, and if i was say a meter long, maybe several months to make. I actually love that this craft is not really that marketable, art for art's sake is a wonderful thing.
@DNGRnoodle, macrame is pretty diverse. Here in India if I or one of my students makes a "bracelet" and actually wears it, it's destroyed in a couple weeks, so I'm more interested in creating little (or not so little) art pieces to enjoy, and more strings means more design options. That said, there are so many amazing designs on here that use say 16 strings or less, it's so cool to see so much creativity from this one simple format, big or small.
