There's two different ways
One is to just leave them dangling and go to the next few rows and merge them back in when The string needs a new knot
The second one is already posted as a photo, but you basically tie a knot around both strings and then all three and then all four, wrapping up the loose string with the light Green

I'm sorry this description is kind of hard to follow but if you looked up " shaped patterns" there's many tutorials
