@coupons_36 Hi! String length is actually unrelated to the width of the bracelet. The necessary length depends on how many knots in the pattern each string is used for as the "working" string, meaning the one that shows up as opposed to the other one it's tied around (the other string -- the "non-working" string of the pair, or the "base string" as it's often called, ends up hidden since the "working" string is tied over & around it). If you click/tap on the top of any string in the pattern image, that string will be highlighted so you can see the path it takes through the pattern. Count the number of "working knots" for that string, which are indicated by arrows whose direction aligns with the path of the string. The more "working knots" a string has, the longer the length will need to be. If the bottom end of a string's path is in a different position than the top end, you should also trace the path & count the knots starting from the position you noted at the bottom end, and cut your length according to the average of the two numbers. If the number of knots for any given string equals more than half the number of rows in the pattern, I recommend using at least 3 feet (or 1 meter) for that string. If the knot count equals less than half the number of rows in the pattern, you can probably cut the length a little shorter (by several inches), but to be on the safe side you might want to just cut it to 3 feet anyway. If the pattern has matching-color strings in symmetrical positions (as this one does), you may choose to double the length you cut for those strings and then fold them in half at the top end of your bracelet to form a loop. I know that's a lot of info to absorb... lol... but the simple answer to your question, for this particular pattern, is that the two outermost strings on each side have fewer knots in the pattern than the others, so will require less length than the other strings. If you wish to make a bracelet in which the actual pattern (not including end loops & ties) is approx. 7 inches long, I suggest you cut at least 30 inches each for the two outermost strings, and at least 36 to 40 inches for all of the others. If you plan to make a knotted loop at the top end, you'll need about 10 inches of extra length for the strings you'll use for those knots. And if you want to add ties at the bottom end, you should allow a little extra length for those, too. Best of luck to you, and I hope this is more helpful than it is confusing! ๐ ๐
