@CarolCat77 not really, you could just use the method where you also use your base strings to make knots. Then you would only need a black and a white leading string and would barely need to make any colour switches.

If you use the "regular" method, I recommend using the flat alpha technique because it helps to connect the individual parts of the pattern.
