Did any of y’all know that Bob Ross used to be a sergeant at the Air Force Base in Alaska, apparently a tough one at that? He was the guy who made you scrub the latrine, the guy who made you make your bed, the guy who screamed at you for being late to work. He left the Air Force for unexplained reasons, and vowed never to raise his voice again. He began painting as a hobby and was taught by German painter Bill Alexander to create a painting in 30 minutes, which Ross perfected. His skill attracted the attention of Annette Kowalski who convinced Ross that he could succeed on his own. Their tv show struggled at first but then blossomed into a widely watched program, The Joys of Painting. Ross was famous for his soft, slow pace speech which mesmerized thousands across the country and for his afro like hair. When he died in 1995 due to cancer, his company had become a $15 million business. When Annette Kowalski was interviewed about Bob Ross’s career, what she said shocked everyone listening. She said that Ross was a very hard man to work with and that in everything, it was “Bob’s way, or no way”. She went on to say that if he hadn’t have been that way, the company wouldn’t have succeeded.
