Happy June, Moon Lovers! Can you believe we’re already at the halfway mark? It makes me sort of emotional! So far, we’ve had 17 people submit 77 patterns in these first six months. I’ve loved getting to see people grow and discover their artistic styles over this first half of the challenge and can’t wait to keep going. It seems like every month we make some new friends as well, which I love. 🍓History “June’s full Moon—typically the last full Moon of spring or the first of summer—has traditionally been called the Strawberry Moon. While strawberries certainly are a reddish-pink color and are roundish in shape, the origin of the name “Strawberry Moon” has nothing to do with the Moon’s hue or appearance […] This “Strawberry Moon” name has been used by Native American Algonquian tribes that live in the northeastern United States as well as the Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota peoples to mark the ripening of “June-bearing” strawberries that are ready to be gathered. The Haida term Berries Ripen Moon reflects this as well. As flowers bloom and early fruit ripens, June is a time of great abundance for many.” 🍓Scoring Guidelines Category - Strawberry Moon - This month, each “entry” must include two patterns-one that fits the strawberry theme and one with a moon. You can either make two bracelets/keychains that go together as a set, or challenge yourself to combine the two patterns into one creation! As always, each creation will be judged in the following categories: -Pattern choice/razzle dazzle -Edges & endings -Knot Tension -Photo *Note* if you make one piece that is not big enough to get the wall hanging multiplier, I will still give you a score for each pattern you used just to keep things a bit more fair. 🍓Bonus Points To celebrate reaching the halfway mark on the challenge, I’ve *doubled* the amount of bonus points you can get this month! Each “entry” can earn a max of 4 bonus points from any categories: +2 points for using anything other than string in your creation: beads, buttons, charms. Get creative! +2 points for using exactly six colors in a creation +1 point for leaving a positive comment on any creation turned in by someone else in the challenge-can be from any month. Tag me in the comment so I can see it and give you credit 🙂 +1 point for having a full moon somewhere in your photo (not in the pattern) 🍓Multiple Entries Up to three “entries” allowed and encouraged! This month, an “entry” can either be one or two items. Your highest scoring creation will be entered. Ties will be broken with the second highest, etc. So if two people have the same score but one person submitted 2 creations, that person would win for the month. If both submitted 2+ creations, whoever scored highest with their second bracelet wins. 🌕DUE: June 30. quick question, i wanted to do #110721 and maybe add some strawberries there from another pattern (still workshopping how exactly it would go), but if i were to make just that one and then a separate strawberry pattern, would the moon pattern not be counted as a wall hanging? i would add a few background rows but i just did the math and the knot number would still be 1330 which is below what you said in your yearly post is the wallhanging knot count. i guess my question is, is 1440 the minimum number of knots for it to be considered a wallhanging or is there some leeway?

I will do #115694 for this month. I’ll have to see what kind of charms I have. Not exactly sure how I will get a full moon in there, but I’ll figure something out.

@teaparty great question! You could certainly do two patterns and still have one count for the wall hanging bonus. In the past I have stuck to 1440 as a hard rule for the double multiplier, but if someone is close very close and makes the pattern as a wall-hanging I have decided I will give them a 1.5 multiplier. So you still get some bonus but not quite as much, just because some of the wall hangings that get turned in are close to double that 1440 mark 🤯 I feel like that is the best way to keep it fair for everyone. However, you could also add a few rows to a pattern to get it over the 1440 mark - if you want to do something like that we can talk about it as well. Lots of options! I'm here to support your creativity 🙂 |

@sophlove21 thank for the answer! I'm kinda swamped with uni atm so I don't know if I'm being overly ambitious hahah but if I end up doing something to make the wallhanging bigger, I'll definitely ask you about the concrete plans first to make sure it's okay!

I'm really loving all of the creative design choices so far! Everyone has had very unique ideas. Tomorrow I should finally have all the scoring done for May! Last month I almost broke my spreadsheet on accident so now I'm trying to not rush haha |
