*YOU WILL NEED 6-STRAND EMBROIDERY FLOSS OR SEWING THREAD FOR THIS CHALLENGE*This one is for all of you who love the patterns of larger bracelets, but prefer to wear something more delicate. In this challenge I want you to split that 6-strand embroidery floss into its individual strands or use sewing thread to make your bracelet. Sewing thread is thread you would get in a sewing kit or buy to put in a sewing machine. RULES: -MUST be a bracelet pattern. -It needs to finish at a length wearable by a human. -Choose a pattern and let me know here. -Make it using the individual strands of your floss or sewing thread. -Post a photo of your project with the words "micro challenge" on it somewhere. -Let me know when your photo gets approved. PRIZES: Placements, but no rewards. DEADLINE: 3 March 2024 TIPS: -When you split your thread, grab one strand with one hand, hold the rest of the strands with the other and pull the individual strand straight out. Don't try to literally split the thread, it will tangle and knot and become a huge mess. Pulling it straight out should help avoid this. If the thread gets stuck as you are pulling it out, find the tail end where the rest are and pull that until some of the coils some out. Try pulling your strand again. It should be moving freely now. (It can still tangle or knot even with these tips.) Like this: ___ ___ ______________ ___ ___ ___ Not this: ||||| / ||||| / |||||/ -If your strings are longer than ~3 feet (1 meter) when you use them, bobbin your individual strands. It will help avoid tangles and knots. It will also help you see the colors of your thread better if you use similar colors. -You can use wax on your thread to make it smoother and stronger, but it might change how it feels when you wear it. -Take your time and start much sooner than you think you need. You will take at least 2x to 3x longer to make this project than you will a normal project because your thread is so small you will need to make about 2x to 3x more repeats than usual to make it a wearable size. Plus, the tiny size can make it hard to see sometimes. -Use good quality thread. The smoother your thread, the better. If your 6-strand embroidery floss already gets tangled and has a lot of friction when using it normally, it won't be good for this project and cause endless frustration. To test sewing thread, take two strands and try to knot one around the other like you normally would. If it catches a lot, I wouldn't recommend using it. -You still need the same length of thread that you normally use. Your thread my be skinnier, but for your project to end up the same length as normal, you still need the same length of thread. If you normally use a wingspan, use a wingspan here too. If you are unsure or there are a lot of knots of the same color on the same thread, go longer. -Don't pull your strings too tight. If you break strings during your normal bracelet making, you will break these tiny threads. Maybe test with some scrap thread how hard you can pull your strands before they break. -A normal pattern will probably be easier to do than an alpha. If you do make an alpha, something with ~80-100 rows should be close to wearable with such thin thread when finished. Maybe make a 10x10 swatch with your chosen thread and calculate how many rows you need from there. -I recommend a pattern with at least 12 strings. Anything smaller will be fit for a Barbie. -I recommend choosing to use this pattern in multiple challenges. It will give you more motivation to do it. -HAVE FUN!!!! |

@kpn @EggMan @Nicoloni @Softawoo @Helianthe @Oeiceil @Eryne @sophlove21If you enjoyed the ant challenge, didn't have time to finish or join, or just want to give it another go, this is the challenge for you. Feel free to pass on it as well. Read the rules, they are a little bit different than last time. And it only runs for a month. |

Thank you for the mention 🙂 I will have to sit this one out since I'm working on a couple of bigger clean back alpha wall-hangings. I've challenged myself enough!Have fun everyone, and I hope you will have as motivated participants as you had with the Bracelet for Ants challenge! |

@kpn Of course! Looks like a good pattern.@Gigi7 Since you chose an alpha, you may want to wax your base strings so they don't fray. Your knotting strings should be okay. |

@kpn That's the spirit! But don't get too frustrated or burnt out by it, it's not worth it. If your threads are tangling, I suggest putting them on a cardboard bobbin. It makes knotting a little harder, but no tangles and knots is worth it.

@ChickenKid Bracelets only. To make that pattern into a bracelet you could cut your base strings long enough for a bracelet and either fill the extra space with background color, or just repeat it over and over and have a bracelet full of chickens.
