why do you have to be 17 to be a mod?

tbh i totally understand why they don’t want 12/13 year olds moderating the site, but i feel like if someone has all of the qualifications and is 15/16 then why shouldn’t they be able to help out? it seems like the site is always in need of some extra hands so it’s a bit disappointing that the site is not willing to accept them. no hate to braceletbook or anything, these are just some thoughts and constructive criticism 😚

I think it’s because 17-year-olds are usually more mature than people who are like 12-16. Obviously that’s not the case for every single person, but just in general people become more mature the older they get. I know there are a lot of younger people on the site who think they’re mature enough to be mods, but the thing about maturity is that you don’t really know that the immature things you do or say are immature. I sometimes think back to things I did or said even just two years ago that I know now are immature, but I didn’t realize it back then. I’m not saying I’m as mature as a 30-year-old now, 18 is still very young, but I’m definitely more mature than I used to be. The age limit also might have something to do with the admin not wanting younger people to be exposed to inappropriate photos, comments, or messages

@madeleine_ I definetely agree but most 15/16 year olds are able to work so in a way they can be a lot more mature tHan people think but yeah I would say that no 12/13 year old is as mature as they might think (not to say they aren’t mature at all)

I think why is that someone just asked if they ever get inappropriate pictures or patterns. A mod replied saying they do a lot. I don’t think they want any minor having to see such things on a site for bracelets. I think that made it 17 because there are some really mature 17 year olds that are really good to have as mods.

17 year olds know more about good patterns and color choices, controversial topics, etc. Plus, imagine 12 year old helping to run a website. Although, i still love the idea of junior mods

I think it’s because 17 is the age that most people start jobs (I believe they work 7 hours a day, not entirely sure)

since there's an ability to upload photos and things like that, people are bound to try and post very inappropriate images onto this site. it's super illegal to expose minors to that, and the admin can get into some huge legal issues if he allows a minor to potentially view nsfw content.

To be honest, I am more mature than my friends and people my age. Even though I am 13(many say I am older), I know some people this age have the ability to be mature. But they should have junior moderators like they are in training to become a moderator(technically those on waiting list now for the new blog). They learn the duties and responsibilities. If they seem to fit, they could maybe qualify to be a moderator

I know I said that some people at 12 can be unmature I realised that people of all ages can be immature and I agree that some teens can easily handle more than people would think. I know this because I saw so many kids my age that although they act perfect they can be very unmature (I am the only kid in my grade that I know who never swore at school or with friends. So even if we think we are mature and it could be true the admin does not need to deal with 12-15 year olds no matter the level of maturity. And I applaud all of the work @innovate does because she is going into college, has a channel, moderates and she is only 17. Even if being younger sucks because you cannot become a moderator yet you can still strive to be a role model for others! Keep up the great work!

@2006_Mandy I totally agree with you. While I think it would be a good experience I’ve given it real thought and it’s really not realistic☹️ there are some really bad things that the mods need to filter out and Admin could get in real trouble. Although it’s sad it’s probably better to wait so that we can really be ready to deal with that stuff. Growing up sucks but it’s just something we gotta wait for. Your also right about only those few people actually being mature. Teens in a hard place to be, and not many people deal with it right. Also I’m not sure why the dentist thought I was 16 I’m super short🤷🏻♀️.

@Firecorn i am turning 17 in less than a month. i believe just as long as you are almost 17 years old, and you are very helpful and contribute a lot to the community, you have a very good chance of becoming a moderator. 🙂

I think it should be younger, I am 12 and I have run a fundraiser for Doctors without Borders, a fundraiser for the Ocean Conservatory, and I have run multiple programs at my local library.
