Hi. My driving test is Saturday and I am very scared, nervous, anxious, and afraid. It will be at the Costa Mesa DMV if anyone has any experience there. If you have taken your test, can you tell me some tips to calm my nerves? Thank you all so much!! |

Take deep breaths (cheesy lol but it works) and just envision yourself being calm during the test and acing it. Good luck, and I’m sure you’ll kill it!

always make sure to mirror properly and watch out for other drivers doing idiot things! I failed my first test since the examinator was making me hella nervous (wouldnt stop talking) and then a driver changed into my lane without using their signal and I had to break unexpectedlyalso don't be afraid to ask your examinator if you can put on the radio at low volume, or if you prefer complete silence other than their directions ect,,, whatever makes you less nervous! |

it's also not a disaster if you fail once btw, sure it'll feel like you wasted money, but even failure can be a learning experience, or perhaps doing it once makes you know what to expect and thus making you less nervous for the next time 👍

Since I took my test in an area I was unfamiliar with (the downtown of my hometown is tricky for a new driver), i drove around where i’d take the test multiple times. i’m not sure if this applies to u, but i’d highly advice against driving in the area for the first time during ur test. to calm your nerves, keep in mind that the evaluator wants you to pass. i was scared they secretly want to fail everyone, but that was just my nerves getting in the way. they want u to succeed and so do i. good luck!! 😄

Don't forget to check your blind spots on the Y-turn! That is where I got most of my points off on my test since I only checked the first one; oops. Also make sure to use your blinkers in the parking lot; as soon as you start driving, the test begins! I didn't even know that was I thing that I could get docked for!But real tip, get out and do some practicing in the area/town that your test is going to be at and you'll feel more comfortable when the time comes. Actually practicing and then remembering that you've practiced eases nerves Overall, just breathe and don't be afraid to talk to the examiner and ask them questions (not about how you're supposed to do something, obviously) if you need clarification or need them to be more specific. They are not out to get you and they want you to succeed You will do better than you think you will 🙂 |

@estrange1 I totally feel you! I took my test in a town I had never driven in before, the morning of the first snow of the year, in a car I didn't normally drive! It was so nerve-wracking, but I passed anyway. The examiner though was concerned about how nervous I was when I was taking the test and he said he would've docked points for it if he could because he didn't feel I was ready; but like, dude! I explained my situation to you, I'm not normally this nervous! But it gives me a story to tell now lol
