I’ll try to explain it the best I can, I use the flat alpha technique by the way. Ok say I’m knotting with the color black and I want to add in blue. I tape down the blue and knot once with the blue string, then I put the black string across it, and then finish the blue knot. So it’s like a sandwich. I’m not very good at explaining so I hope that made sense but if you haven’t seen masha knots flat alpha technique video I would recommend watching that because that’s how I learned and she’s great at explaining.

It depends on which row you’re on. If you’re adding knots in the row from left to right (meaning you’ve been making forward knots so far in the row) then you do a forward knot. If you’re adding knots in the row from right to left (meaning you’ve been making backward knots so far in the row) then you do a backward knot. Like the person above me said, I recommend watching Masha Knots’ video called “flat alpha bracelets - beginner tutorial” if you haven’t yet. What problem are you having when you try to add a new string?

Tying your knots tighter might help. But I think the main thing you should do is just practice. My color switches used to be all bumpy and weird too, but now they’re mostly flat. So just keep practicing and your alphas will start looking better

Practicing, tightening your knots and making sure you are using the correct ones also helps!
