Does anybody have any beginner tips for starting a bullet journal? Also do you need to have a dotted notebook for it? I just have a bunch of lined notebooks. Thanks in advance!😄

from the videos i’ve seen on bullet journals (i don’t have one myself), you probably want a dotted notebook. you can certainly do a bullet journal with a lined one, but it might get in the way when doing layouts and drawings. some tips would be to get a journal with decently thick paper. also, try not to use an alcohol based marker like sharpie. they will bleed through the pages. personally, i don’t like it when that happens, but some people don’t care. and, buy lots of washi tape! it will save you!

omg i’ve been bullet journaling for three years!!! no 1 you don’t need a dotted notebook!!! you can use graph paper as well the dotted is just a little less out there ya know? lined or blank isn’t that helpful. no 2 make sure that u are committed to bujo before you start it might look easy but trust me it takes dayssss to finish a spread. what might help is a daily planner to start out and get used to journaling every day

no 4 start making ur spread about a month or two before bc if you don’t by the time it’s a new month you will be struggling to make a spread no 5 start simple!! don’t be too hard on ur self trying to make everything perfect. it will be way less fun and get boring fast no 6 you can do it just believe in ur self no 7 always have pencils erasers a ruler scissors wash i tape and stickers on hand oh and a fine liner or ball point pen you can always add color later! if you have any questions message me!!! hope this helps! good luck ❤️

@idziellie, you are completely right about starting spreads early. I have made that mistake before and have been really rushed. I think it is also, to do themes for either each month or week. I have some good pens I use that aren’t too expensive. They are the hawthorn dual tip felt pens. They are really great and do not bleed. Good Luck!

It doesn't matter what type of notebook!if you don't have dotted or graphed, lined is just fine! I've seen beautiful spreads on lined journals! Also I think it's good to have a theme each month, even if it's really simple.and also like others are saying, get some inspo! You can look on Instagram, Pinterest, or just search it up on Google!

Hope this helps

I never tried on lined paper but in general I'm not a fan on lined paper. The one I have is graph paper but I wouldn't mind using dots too. It is time consuming so like @idziellie said start early so that everything is ready by the time the beginning of the month comes around otherwise you might not be able to finish. I'm trying to go digital so you can always look at that too.

OMG fun!! I love bullet journaling! Any paper is fine! I like have only came up with my own idea once so if this happens to you I would totally recommend making a board on Pinterest for it! It helped me a bunch! I think I have a board on bullet jouraling for some reason Pinterest won't let me log in anymore so I can't get to it. I am very sad!

you don't have to use a dotted notebook but it would be easier, or you could use a graph paper notebook. For beginners I would suggest getting some washi tapes, colored pens, and stickers if youd like. I personally like to add some colored papers to the background of things. and just saying, there is no wrong way to bullet journal!!! its yours and you get to make it any way you want to!!!
