Hi! I got a wonderful set of color changing thread for my birthday from a friend, but I haven't been using it very often. I'm kind of unsure of the best way to use it. If anyone has a good pattern suggestion or tip for using color changing thread, it would be greatly appreciated. 😄

In my opinion color shifting thread is really pretty in “Celtic knot” style patterns like #26403 because you can see the colors in the thread really clearly. They’re also really fun to use in the back ground for alphas!

You can also try using the thread for the backgrounds of alphas if you have enough. #35527 is a really cute pattern to try that with.

I agree with @StyleKnots and @whitneymac . Celtic patterns and as the backgrounds to alphas are really good places to use colour shifting strings. I also use them in normal patterns where there are only two colours (like a black and a white for example) and use the colour shifting string for the more dominant colour.

I would try it with #31010 or #34109. Greek or Celtic patterns usually look great with color changing thread. 🙂

Depending on what color it shifts you could use it on a wave pattern too🙂

What are some recommendations of color changing thread?

@chloe_27 I have Prism Six Strand Color Changing Floss, which seems to work fine. I don't have any other brands to compare it to, but I like it. It is a little bit on the thicker side (in my opinion) and it was given to me in a set. In the particular set I have there is about 7 variations of thread color combinations, with 18 rolls. The color changes quite quickly from one to the next, so if you're looking for something more gradual I would recommend looking at other brands. I hope this was helpful and let me know if you have any other brands you like and/or come across. I used this thread in pattern #29169 and I will post a photo within the next few days. 😊

@sushi_06 thank you! Can you use it in alphas?

My favorite way to use color-changing thread is as the background of simple alphas to make them more interesting

@chloe_27 Yes! I used it in an alpha and it worked pretty well. It cam out little more bumpy that I would've liked it to be, but that could've also just been the way I was knotting. idk. Like I said, I'll post a photo in the next few days so you can see. 😘
