my knots look great when i’m doing chevrons and simple things like that but when i do 1-2 patterns my knots look terrible and my bracelet is usually a weird shape. how do i fix this?

I don't think there really is a way to fix that. 1-2-1-2 patterns are completely made out of fb and bf knots, so they are harder to do then normal patterns. I would say it comes with practice. Maybe try practicing fb and bf more before going into these patterns.

The only thing you can really do is practice. Maybe making sure the first hitch/half is firm and in the right place before securing it with the second half/hitch would help in some way. If you struggle with BF and FB knots, you could just get two pieces of old string you used for other bracelets, and just make those two knots between them.
