okay so I have a medium-blonde, natural, never bleached hair. I got into dyeing my hair at the beginning of the year and the color I decided on was Good Dye Young's Blue Ruin... which turned out to be a not-so-great choice considering how long it ended up staying in my hair. Obviously, as a semi-permanent color, after a few months it faded a lot, and I still had half a bottle left...

so i redyed it. and then it was an even brighter blue and all was great, it looked fantastic, I loved it.
But after a while I got tired of the blue dye and wanted to move onto dyeing it pink. The only problem: there were areas in my hair where the color stuck much better, one on each side of my face. It faded a lot, enough where I was able to dye my hair pink (with Manic Panic) and cover it up, but it only lasted a couple of washes before it became apparent that those sections weren't pink like the rest of my hair was. Next I'm looking to dye my hair in an orange-pink fade, and since orange is opposite of blue, it would neutralize it and create a brown (which I don't want). I would have bleached it to get the color out (and make dyeing easier in general) but I'm not quite ready to commit to damaging my hair that much for color, especially since I've been working on growing out my hair recently (my hair has always been in a bob, but about a year ago I decided I wanted to start growing it out) and am really happy with how healthy and long it is... but regarding the blue portion, I have two questions:
1) Any known ways to get it out without bleach? I've tried multiple things, vigorously scrubbing shampoo on the sections to get it out, vinegar and baking soda, etc, and nothing has seemed to work. It is a very VERY faint blue (more of a barely visible green at this point) so while it isn't much of a problem, it still does obviously cause problems when dyeing my hair as described above
2) If none of these ways really work (which for me they haven't so far), is there a way to only mildly bleach it, just enough so that the color is removed but the actual shade of my hair is only mildly lifted? I've heard of doing bleach baths for your hair, but would this work for what I'm trying to accomplish? I also know there are lower developer bleaches, but again, I just want to remove the blue, not actually lighten my hair.

So yeah to any fellow people who dye their hair... if you have an answer... please. I've been trying to figure this out for months now. thank you so much in advance 🙂

that’s so cool that you’re experimenting with your hair and expressing yourself with colors! i have medium/dark brown hair and i’ve been getting blonde highlights the past 5ish years. rn my hair is a light honeyish brown with blonde highlights. the only color i’ve ever dyed it before was purple last summer. it was also a semi permanent dye so it eventually washed almost completely out. but still left a purplish look on my hair. i ended up dying brown over it. so one option would be a color stripper but that is horrible for your hair. ofc bleach like you said. i’m not sure of any other ways. you may have to see a professional colorist to get advice bc anything you find on the internet will probably be trial and error and you’ll take the risk of damaging your hair. but i’m probably not the best for advice considering my hair is basically dead from 5+ years of heat damage as well as color damage 😭

your case will definitely be harder than mine since i have natural brown hair and could just dye over the color. it would be harder to do that with blonde.

@tkd2010 oh gosh 😭 yeah tbh I feel like after I've been dying my hair for a little bit longer, I'll get tired of having to use super pigmented dyes and not being able to do every color i want because I can't do like pastels and stuff and I'll just probably one day bleach it at home (and hopefully not mess up? I've been watching enough Brad Mondo vids that I should be an expert but you never know) lol

@tkd2010 real... I also might end up chopping my hair off soon just because it's less to dye (I'm growing it out but at the same time... it gets tempting after a while haha) and that would also get rid of the blue portion (mostly) since I only dyed it blue like 1/2-3/4 of the way up my hair at that time

omg you have some strength to chop off your hair lol. i literally can’t make myself do it. my hair is like almost to my waist when it’s down and straightened. but that would ofc help get rid of the blue.

I had some red dye that wouldn't leave, and I used baking soda to get it out. Online it said to put it in my shampoo and that did nothing, so I but some in my sink with some water and left my hair in there for a few minutes and literally saw the water get red. Not sure it's great for the hair but mine stayed healthy 🙂
