Long Haired Guinea Pig Problem (Help!)

So I have a guinea pig Fred (my pfp) and he has very long hair. He lives outside and his hair very quickly becomes full of dreads. It’s also very greasy which I suspect is part of the problem. He hates being brushed and groomed, and doesn’t always tolerate us cutting the dreads. He is less fluffy and less comfortable to pet now. Any suggestions? (Sorry it’s kinda long)

Have you tried distracting him with treats while brushing/grooming? It sounds stupid but my dog hates getting her fur trimmed and that usually works

Not sure how to help but Fred is literally ADORABLE!! I’ve never seen a long haired guinea pig before and he is so, so cute!!

@singingamp yeah I have. He sometimes stays but I swear he has a sixth sense for the brush. He starts spinning in circles when he senses it 😂

Our long haired guinea pig Pirate is the same, whenever distracting her with treats doesn’t work we gently wrap her up in a blanket to hold her in place while we cut out the knots if that helps!
