My dog, a ten year old brown Boston terrier, has been having on and off pain for about 7 months now. She has been a very active dog her entire life and during swimming season she suddenly started having pain. The pain would only be there after she played ball too hard or went swimming. In the past week and a half, the pain has been more consistent. We have had trouble pinpointing the exact location of the pain but I’m starting to think that it is her back and neck that are hurting. She also has been having very bad anxiety over this because she feels bad for feeling bad and has been trying to avoid people so we don’t touch her in a bad spot. Whenever she has pain anywhere she doesn’t like to eat either so that is also a problem because she has lost a bit of weight. Other symptoms she has: Very stiff neck Trying to look around with only her eyes to avoid moving her head Shaking from anxiety Random yelps when she is not even being touched or moving She doesn’t want to go on walks as much Doesn’t want to play as much Having trouble jumping places where she used to Laying down flat on her stomach and not rolling on her back anymore Sometimes when she bites down on things she’ll yelp Stiff joint We have taken her to the vet multiple times for this and they have just said it’s back pain and sent her home with pain killers. The pain killers do help her when she takes them but I am still worried about what is causing the pain. I don’t know if we should take her back and request x.rays or what we should do. If anyone has been in a similar situation or has any tips please let me know. |

I'm so sorry! Pet problems are the worst. I'll be praying for you all!Full disclaimer, I've not in any way a vet, nor have I ever had a Boston terrier. But I looked it up and it looks like Boston terriers have a history of spinal deformities and it could be that they haven't bothered her but now that she's getting older, it could be affecting her. I'd ask for x-rays just to check for that. I'm not sure what it could be otherwise. It could also be an arthritis of some kind. With it affecting her so suddenly, I don't know what it could exactly be. Painkillers sound like the best thing you could be doing for her right now. But I'd go in for x-rays. I'm so sorry again. I hope she gets the relief she needs 🥺 |

@Hylia224 Thank you. (: Any advice helps. I think I’m going to try to get her to a vet in February for x-rays. She’s been very happy today so I think she’s feeling a bit better.

i'm not a vet, but i think it might be starting to become joint stiffness and general stiffness because of old age. you might want to ask the vet for diets to ease it and try to get the dog some gentle exercise?

Hey I’m not a vet but I am super smart with dogs, I think your dog might have either have something stuck in her stomach or throat. If not that, have you checked her teeth? Sometimes dots can have really sharp teeth resulting in the teeth ripping the inside flesh of their mouth which makes it very difficult and uncomfortable for them to chew or bite. If the teeth is the case, stomac aches would make sense because she wouldn’t be eating, which is why she has probably been losing weight. Again I’m not an expert at anything. I’m not quite sure what the other symptoms are about but you should watch some either vets shows because they can help and give you some answers to your question or take her to your greatest vet and make them do a full investigation, if the reduce you should ask them to do an exploratory surgery. And exploratory surgery is were the vets go in and search for any torn muscles or flesh or any ordinary objects within the intestines. The intestines could be a huge issue for sure, I’m not quite sure what they call it but there is such thing where it’s like a “saw” that goes through their intestines and tear it. Again I am not a professional vet or have any experience but I do have quite a bit of knowledge about it. I’m SOO so sorry for you and pls let me know if you figure it out! 😣😢🥺

I'm not a vet either, but I worked in an animal clinic for years. It might be worth also consulting an animal chiropractor if you can find one in your area. I have seen a lot of dogs and cats with back and neck pain helped immensely by seeing a chiropractor. Hope you're able to get a diagnosis and your pet feels better soon!
