Does anyone know how to make alphas thinner?

I bought a bunch of hardware to make dog collars a while back, only to find that my bracelets are too thick to double through the holes. Does anyone know how to make them thinner? I found splitting my working thread in half made it a bit thinner, only to find that it is still too thick. I really don't want to have to buy all new hardware as I've already sunk $25 or so into 30 buckles and 50 slides, so I really don't want all that to go to waste. (Oh and just to be clear, I mean the actual thickness of the bracelet's side view, not the width from the front view. That would just require less base strings haha.)
