how to add a odd amount of string onto keychains/and or wall hangings

okay so basically when i do keychains i make slipknots on the keychain and i dont know what to do if there is an odd amount of strings that i need to use

what i usually do is if there is 21 base strings i’ll use 11 strings folded in half and make the slip knots. then you have 22 strings but you need 21. so on the leftmost string pair i take the one on the right (so the second base string in the row) and just put it behind the keychain/wall hanging. then just start knotting, skipping that string you put behind.

you could make the leftmost slip knot the same color as the first row or knot and start one side of the slip knot as the first leading string

or i have thinner stuff that i use as base strings and i use one slip knot as one base string even though there are two strings on it
