ok so i’m on vacation and i got three hermit crabs (from a store) i got a tank thingy, sand, drinking sponges, food, extra shells, and a care guide. does anyone have any tips for proper care. the lady told me no citrus or acidic foods, no real beach sand but that’s really it. i’m trying to google things but wanted to ask here too! tysm 💛

Wait, you have hermit crabs? That’s so cool!! I don’t know anything about hermit crabs, and i would tell you if i had some tips… anyways, your very lucky to have hermit crabs, cause MY parents only like cats, which is kinda sad cause i really want a parrot

@dracula yes i actually just got them today! my parents don’t like pets either (we have an outside cat) but they don’t care abt this. they are so cute!💛

@dracula on google it says approximately 15 years but on the care sheet i got it said some stay with there families for 30 years!

are u artistic? you should paint Conan grey on his shell!😂can you tell which hermit crab is male and which is female? My aunt works for fish and game and she named a porcupine she was feeding Lucy. Turns out Lucy is a male. |

@TKEStrong3 well i like to think i’m artistic. but rn they are wayyyy to small for me to paint something like that on their shells. yes you can tell but they are just getting used to their new environment and i don’t want to scare them. (you have to look under their claws or legs i don’t remember, and females have two black dots and males do not) rn i just picked their genders sooo😂 some names are kinda gender neutral. they are : hermie, charlie, sebastian, and conan.😂

oh, i was thinking like the pet hermit crabs i've seen at Petco with big decorated shells... i guess i didn't realize you can get them when they're still really small.when they get bigger and need bigger shells, do u have to buy them? you should put plastic lids or those little plastic half&half cups in there for when they need a bigger shell and see if they'll use those🙂 |

@TKEStrong3 yea the biggest one i have is only a bit larger than a quarter probably. yes i bought larger shells for when the out grow their current shells. hmm they might use the lids bc my aunt told me in the wild they do that so idk😂

i was just looking at some kids ocean book and it was talking about how they'll use that kind of thing sometimes.Have you ever heard of decorator crabs? they'd be fun to have as pets, in the ocean they cover themselves with seaweed and stuff as camouflage, but i've heard in captivity you could have them in a tank with a bunch of glitter and stuff and they'd stick that on their shells instead🤩 |
