Bar Mitzvah advice?

So my friend invited me to his Bar Mitzvah coming up, and I honestly don't know what to do I said yes because it sounded cool and I wanted to go, but idrk how to dress or whatnot because i've never been to one, my mom says its a fancier event because she went to a ton of her friends as a kid, but my friend says its like fancy casual and that you don't need to bring anything, but then my mom is saying you're supposed to bring something. SO yeah help is appreciated.Also sorry if this was really long |

I’ve been to three of these. I can probably help. The ones I went to I wore a fancy party dress-think homecoming- and yeah you’re supposed to bring a gift. I just got him a gift card. Now if you’re also going to the service (I know it’s not called a service I’m sorry I can’t remember the word) you wear a nice dress but think church. Oh and at the service shoulders must be covered.
