so I’ve been wasting a lot of time on social media, especially Instagram. And I find myself checking my other social media’s a lot, and I would like to stop mindlessly scrolling or feeling the need to check my snapchat (etc.). any tips on how to limit or stop time spent on social media? |

Give yourself a time limit and stick to it. For example, you can be on social media from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. I do this for BB, and it has REALLY helped. 🙂 Just don't make it really complicated. Don't be, like, "I can be on from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. and then I don't go on for an hour and then from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m." Ect. It might work for you, but it didn't work for me. Hope this helps!!! Good luck! 😄

Yeah giving yourself a set time period within which you can spend time on social media is probably the best method. A more extreme method would be to precede that with a social media detox; i.e. to make yourself stay off social media for one week straight (or more) to break the habit and force yourself to restart. Some people do this by doing something else whenever they feel like getting onto social media again (e.g. journal, do a chore they’ve been putting off, writing a nice postcard for a friend, or going for a walk), or by intentionally ‘trading’ the hours they usually spend on social media, doing something else (e.g. If you usually spend about 20 hours a week on social media, you could get yourself to do something else like read or knot a bracelet for the same number of hours instead).

I find other ways around my house to occupy my time that isn’t being on my phone. Typically I read, make bracelets, watch Netflix, color in a coloring book. These all help and I feel productive when I do them.

I don’t have social media, but I have the same issue with screens in general. I usually try to do something before hand, fold laundry, make a bracelet, wipe down the counters and clear them off, set the table, sweep, clean out my parrots cage, and then however long it took me to do those things I can spend on my phone or computer. So for example, if it took me 13 minutes to clean the kitchen, 5 to clean my room and make the bed, another 10 to sweep, and then 15 to clean out my parrots cage, then I add the time up, and I would get 43 minutes on my phone.

Figure out the average screen time per day/week. Or give yourself a certain amount of screen time and set a timer on your phone. Spend more time outside? Try and leave your phone in a different room when you’re at home. If you notice a certain time of day that you use on social media, switch to another activity like reading, meditation, something quiet to help settle your mind down for the evening.
