editing a pattern for the straight edges technique

I saw a you tube vid about the straight edges technique for normal patterns, and it looked in the video like the person edited the pattern to add strings onto the edges. How can I do this, or is it possible?

Add an extra string to your bracelet. At the edge of a pattern, the “strings” go out to the side and then back in again. When you see that, do a bf on the left side or a fb knot on the right side onto the extra string. Depending on the pattern, it might be easier to print it out and write in the extra knots or recreate it in the generator and add the extra strings. If you use the generator, you won’t be able to submit it; it would just be for your use. Hope this helps! Let me know if you want me to clarify anything!
