I recommend yarn weight 3 or 4, since those are naturally the easiest to work with. I think the last time I heard, 100 percent synthetic yarns are the cheapest, even though natural fibers are very nice quality. I use acrylic yarns and I find those sooooo soft and nice. The colours in these are super bright so I were you, I would buy the acrylic yarns of yarn weight 3 or 4. The only other essential thing you need is a hook, and this goes for preference. If you want a grip or not is your choice. A lot of people think the hook with a grip is more comfortable, but I use the ones without. Get a hook around the size of 4.00 mm to start. I get all my supplies at Michael's, but it's never a wrong time to support small companies and go to a local yarn store, I'm sure they have the same stuff. As for patterns, you could go on YouTube and search 'amigurumi _ tutorial'. I think if you're a complete beginner, start with a ball. That's what I did and I think it really helped me get familiar with the stitches and abbreviations. Hope this helps! Have any questions, just ask! |

I've been crocheting for almost 30 years (making amigurumi for 15), so if you have more questions, get stuck, or need more assistance with anything, ask away! You'll need yarn, a crochet hook, stuffing and a large-eyed sewing needle. YouTube tutorials are a great resource. Just search "beginner amigurumi". Watch a few from different people and find someone who explains things in a way you can readily understand. As recommended already, a ball really is a great place to start. As for yarn, I recommend starting with an acrylic yarn in worsted/4 weight. This information will be on the label. You'll want yarn that's all one consistent size throughout (some yarns have thicker and thinner sections, AVOID this type). Colour is mostly up to you, but lighter /brighter colours will make seeing your stiches much easier. Don't use black. Just... Trust me on this one. Lol Ignore the hook size it recommends on the label, you'll want to use a 4.0mm/G6. It's easy to be swayed by all the fancy yarns and hooks, but something inexpensive/basic to start with is just fine. And as for stuffing, you can use almost anything, like scrap yarn, old Tshirts, even cotton balls, so you don't have to buy a big bag of polyfil when you're first starting out. Hth 😄 |
