@miagrace I agree, I’m pretty sure you’re alright. doctors say it’s normal to start anywhere between 9-15 years old. for example, my mom started at 9, I started at 11, but one of my friends didn’t start until she was 15. all are normal. like it was mentioned above, I think you should consult a doctor if you haven’t started by the time you’re 16. but so far it sounds perfectly normal and you’ll be okay (:

I did a Museum exhibit concept draft thing for a school project (Our group presented for the local public museum leaders and some teachers and they asked us to present to other classes at our school). The history behind your period and the inventions/medicines people have made to deal with them are pretty wild. A hundred years ago, people got their periods at around 16, now the average age is like 13. We live in a pretty good time for having products and medicines to help you deal with menstruation,, and also people's views have changed a lot and there is more education and research about reproductive health.
My mom had terrible endometriosis @Books4Ever but thankfully it has not returned. She had to get 1 and a half ovaries and her uterus removed because her uterine lining cells (the "blood" you shed) escaped the confines of her uterus and were spreading like wildfire in her innards with nowhere to go, and the doctors can't really clean the slimy stuff off your organs so they had to remove them. It was horribly painful when she did have it.
I am not zero waste, but I do use a menstrual cup when I am on my period (it is pretty mild and usually 4-5 days). What do you guys prefer or use most? pads, tampons, washable pads, etc?

@novaphina I use tampons, but I’m actually interested in trying a menstrual cup. what are some reasons you prefer them? and would you need to buy only one or does it help to have a couple?

@llama1013 @HelloooIts I have 2 different ones. One of them is the Flex brand and I do not like the weird design/shape. The other one is the Tampax brand, but it ts the more normal shape and I like it more. I wash it carefully in the sink with Cora brand soap after dumping it into the 🚽 (sorry for tmi).

They are better than pads or tampons because there is super low risk of Toxic Shock (serious disease from toxins from bacteria growing in an old tampon), and you can leave them in longer (I think 12 hours max), there's no string hanging out (incase you are wearing shorts or bathing suit), it never leaks, better for the environment.

the only cons are cleaning it, especially if you had to clean it in a public sink (although you can dump it in the toilet and put it back in and clean it when you get home), slightly more time-consuming than a tampon or pad, it can be hard to put it in and take it out, and some people get squeemish putting it in or taking it out.

There's tons of info on the interwebs too, I probably have missed some stuff. Btw you can't feel it in there, just like a tampon

I am a swimmer so if there is anybody here who doesn't want to use ANY menstrual products in the water, try RubyLove bathing suits! You can go in the water with nothing but the bathing suit!

It may not help much, but when I was like 11-12 I found out this little tid-bit... whenever you get cramps, watch something you really like on your phone or computer or whatever. It’ll distract your mind

@novaphina don’t worry about tmi, I asked because I was curious lol. thanks for explaining! I’m definitely wanting to look into trying them sometime. I like the idea of low-risk of toxic shock, as well as being able to leave them in longer. thanks again!
