🎤 Question for all the singers / vocal coaches on BB! 🎤

First of all you should know some things about me:
- my age is 17
- my sex is F
- I don't have a vocal coach just because I can't, not because I don't want to

Here's my problem:
I can't belt upper than a SI♭ (B♭) or a SI (B) if it's a great day. I am able to hit a DO (C) only mixing and only in great days and that's it. I sure can hit higher notes, but only with my head voice.
It looks like every other female singer can hit a DO♯ (C♯), and many can hit a RE (D) or a MI♭ (E♭)
I know that many contraltos and some cis males can belt up to RE!! How???
(With “great days” I mean the days when I am really confident and I sing better than usual)

I want to know if this is normal or not.

• Do you think it's normal or should I train more? I mean, without hurting my voice of course
• Could it be due to my age? Will my range become wider by getting older?
• Bonus question: What's your belting range?

Sorry for any English mistake

hey! i am your age and a female, and i can belt up to a C or C# on a good day. i am much more comfortable with head voice or mixing. in terms of whether your range is normal, i think it depends more on how much you have been practicing and how long you have been singing. for me, i started with classical singing which requires mainly head voice. i started belting a few years ago, when i began learning how to sing in a musical theatre style and a pop style. of course your voice will continue developing as you grow older, so if you continue practicing belting, your range will increase, but do not overdo it. if you aren’t using proper vocal technique, belting too much can really damage your voice. as far as training, i recommend doing warmups whenever you can. if you’d like, i can try recommending some to you, but i’m not sure how well i can explain them through just writing. but since you say you don’t have a vocal coach, i’m sure on youtube there are instructional warmup videos that are specifically targeted toward improving vocal technique when belting. anyway, i hope that helps! 🙂

I can hit like maybe a F natural belting on a good day, ik I can do a D natural belt and don’t laugh, it’s actually easier to do it in a warm shower or like when it’s kinda warm or slightly humid because the heat and the steam helps clear my nose, chest and head. When I am doing a belt, I do it from my chest. I am not sure on my vocal range tho but if you practice in your shower, you can practice your belt with a clearer nose and chest so it comes out clearer. Hope this helps!

But yeah you also need to do warmups but that’s to be expected!

I am not a vocal coach at all but I have a lot of problems with getting a loud high note. I am a soprano but I think standing helps to hit louder, higher notes. Also I drink water before I sing and I do some vocal warm ups. Hope this helps! 🙂

Eating a good healthy diet and avoiding foods that can trigger mild reflux symptoms can also greatly affect how well your voice can stay maintained even beyond school years. 🙂

@Tikilishi thank you 😄 that's also the reason why I don't drink nor smoke or anything! I want to keep my voice healthy (and my body too of course)
