Hi! I've been selling my bracelets for a while, but since the *gestures broadly,* I haven't been able to sell at school. I want to start my shop, buta) I'm not sure if it should be on Etsy, Depop, or just keep it to Instagram, b) I am TERRIBLE at pricing. Bracelets take me a really long time to make so if I'm paying myself a fair hourly rate the prices would be insane, materials aren't really a factorbecause I really only do normal patterns and I got a bunch of thread secondhand, and just-- ah? How do you not make your things too expensive while being fair for your time/energy? c) any direction where to get eco-friendly shipping/packaging supplies? If anyone has any pointers, that would be much appreciated!!! Thanks so much!!! |

How do you not make your things too expensive while being fair for your time/energy? c) any direction where to get eco-friendly shipping/packaging supplies? a. etsy 100% b. here's the thing... even though you have second hand string (free string) you still want to include that in your price. When I sold bracelets, for arrowheads i did 6.50 I used 6 whole skeins of string and could make 3 bracelets. that was around .90 cents that it cost me to make 3 bracelets, then i multiplied that by 3, so 2.70 then I included packaging, labor and multiplied the whole thing by 2 or 2.5 another thing with pricing... LOOK AT THE OTHER PEOPLES SALES. this will help. Because you are on a very large platform your competition is available to view. You don't want to be so cheap you are losing money, but cheaper than the other stores, and still have good quality, you can also raise the price up but then run more sales more often for that type of product. And don't undersell your products... your talents and time need to be paid for. You also don't need to have the best things right at the beginning, if your shop crashes, then you don't want to be at a loss. You will need good quality items, but you don't need to break the bank before you even sold anything. If you make break even (make more money than expenses) and you want to buy something, take the positive profit divide it by 2 and then use that number to invest back into your business, you always want saving in case of refunds, returns, etc. You can't pay back with money you don't have, so it's very important. another thing... people love free things. If they order a bracelets, maybe send a simple candy-stripe as a thank you, and a coupon for 15% for next time. Once you get customers, you want to keep them. You need to promote your shop, mention it to a friend, tell people about it, because if you don't get exposure.. then you don't have customers. c. For eco friendly packaging you can go to https://www.ecoenclose.com/shop/recycled-mailers/ you can also use water-activated sealing paper tape. You can make your packaging cute and it won't harm the environment! |
