Ok everyone I feel like this is kind of stupid but also kind of smart so why not. So I am sitting here doing homework and I have a math problem that I need help on but it is winter break so my teacher won't answer me back so I came up with an idea. Any math problems you need help with just put it in this forum and if you know how to answer anyone else's problems then make sure to tag them and help them out!

Ok here is my question...so rn I am working on quadratics and I am super stuck on this story problem!

The area of the rectangle is 50 squared inches. The length of the rectangle is 10 more than the width. Find the dimensions of the rectangle!

If you can help than I would rlly appreciate and I will try my best to help yall with your problems!
Love you all ❤️

Hi!
So: The area of the rectangle is 50 squared inches. The length of the rectangle is 10 more than the width. Find the dimensions of the rectangle!

The area of the rectangle is length x width
Therefore, if we let the width be x, the length will be 10x
The area will be 10x multiplied by x, =10x^2
10x^2=50
x^2=5
x= square root of 5 (reject negative square root as length cannot be <0)
So the dimensions of the rectangle is square root of 5 x 10 root 5

I think (math isn’t that great but it should be like this) ❤️

Okay wait just realised I misinterpreted the question (sorry, English is not my first language)
So, taking x to be the width,
Area= x(x+10)
= x^2 +10x
x^2 + 10x -50=0
And then, apply the formula,
x= (-10 x square root of 10^2 - 4x 1 x (-50) )/ (2 x 1)
x will be 3.66025 (approximate, and reject negative value as lengths cannot be negative)
And so, the width is 3.66 (3sf), and the length is 3.66025x10= 13.7 (3sf)

This one should be correct
