Just wanted to hear some other people’s opinions on giving lower ratings. In the past I’ve only rated patterns I love and given them 5 stars, but I’ve seen people in the comments get called out for giving lower ratings. I think the ratings are important, as that’s a good way to search. However, I know we also have a lot of younger members in this community and it’s important to not discourage them when they make patterns. How do we walk this line? Can we give lower ratings to a super simple pattern or a pattern that we think isn’t good for the community? I’d love to hear more thoughts.

I personally vote patterns either five stars (if I like the pattern really much and/or the person who made it deserves five stars) or one star only if it's a political pattern, or something like that, that offends me. If I give less than five stars to a good pattern by accident I will apologize in the comments

I don't rate patterns too much any more because of arguments over ratings and such that left me upset. I will rate a pattern what I feel it deserves if I want to rate it and I would never rate a controversial pattern poorly just because my beliefs might not align with it. I know that a human being sees the ratings I give and I know I would never ever rate a pattern 1 star anymore or even 2 stars. There are people who think they should rate every pattern as they feel but I am not like that. Basically I won't judge a pattern based on the creator or my beliefs because a pattern is a pattern and if I don't like it I will move on there is no point in me rating a pattern poorly. And the admin will eventually get rid of the current rating system so that is good as well 🙂

@2006_Mandy Ikr! Like if you don’t like a pattern just move on, there are around 60000 others to choose some, if you really feel like you need to share your opinion just say it respectfully and don’t tell them that their opinion is wrong or that the pattern is bad 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I only rate patterns five stars... it's a small thing you can do that takes less than a second and it can really brighten somebody's day! If I accidently rate below a five I try to apologize in the comments. I dont really understand why people rate bad on purpose or why people write negative comments... if you don't like the pattern don't waste your time to type out something rude.
