i feel like asking for people’s pronouns should be normalized in society. even if the person you’re talking to “passes” as a certain gender, you should ask their pronouns anyway. it is the respectful thing to do!

this also goes for cisgender people. (someone who identifies as the gender they were assigned at birth) you may not think that pronouns matter all that much, but i can tell you that they do!

here are a few examples of respectful ways to ask/tell people your pronouns!

“hello! my name is _____, and i use _____ pronouns.”

“oh, i don’t use ___ pronouns anymore. i go by ___ now.”

“what pronouns do you use?”

“which pronouns are you most comfortable with?”

as for ACCIDENTALLY misgendering someone, please just say a quick “i’m sorry” and correct yourself. it’s best not to make a big deal out of it so you don’t embarrass the person you misgendered.

INTENTIONALLY misgendering someone is never okay. it’s offensive, degrading, and disrespectful in so many ways. (the only way this would be acceptable is if the person you’re with had previously asked you to use different pronouns in certain situations.)

i know that using different pronouns for someone you have known for a while is hard. but please try your best. it will make that person feel much better!

thank you for reading this, and i hope you have a great day!

(bonus points for putting your pronouns in your bio!)

This is so great. Asking people’s pronouns is so important, I feel as if having your pronouns in your bio is a great way to help normalize the importance of respecting people and the way they want themselves referred to.

Yes I know the names but some ppl, for example, say they use she/her pronouns. What does that mean when a person says I use ... pronouns?

Well it means that they identify with that gender of the pronouns. so if they use she/her pronouns that means they identify as a female.

@derin16_ Its fine some people aren't educated much on this subject. But people that use They/Them pronouns are Non-Binary and sometimes Gender Fluid people.
