@unicorn_70 yeahhh I thought it was kinda cool that you managed to find my old post! Now that I think about it, my views on religion and my own practice has actually changed a lot since I made this!

@lucass_ that’s cool! Well, back when this post was made, I had a more narrow view of religion (for context, I was a very stubborn atheist lol) and I feel like I can appreciate other religions a lot more! I have identified as an atheist for a long time, and I think I’m finally ready to explore other things!

@lucass_ Christianity isn’t really for me (or really any organized religion). It feels too restrictive for my beliefs, so I’ve been researching paganism for a while. That basically means that I would worship other gods/goddesses besides those in the Abrahamic religions (those being Christianity, Islam, and Judaism). It seems like a good fit for me so far, and I’m really excited to begin my path! (Not trying to say anything bad about Christianity at all! Its just not the best fit for me and my practices.)

@lucass_ thank you so much! You sound like a very nice and understanding person! But a lot of what turned me away from Christianity was the negative teachings of LGBTQ people. I felt like it was mean and unfair to treat LGBTQ like garbage in the name of religion. Of course there are many amazing Christian people in the world that are the nicest and most understanding people out there! I’ve learned that I can’t let a few negative people ruin my view of an entire group.

@lucass_ It’s alright! Really, the main thing for me is just having an organized religion in the first place. I’m a very independent person and I don’t really like having to follow very specific rules and such. Of course, I have a general moral list like dont kill, don’t cheat, don’t hurt anyone, etc. but I just prefer a lot of freedom with my religion!

I'm agnostic, though my beliefs are probably a mixture of Christian and Buddhists ideas.

@plant-dad I feel the exact same way! I’m kind of the same as @CoolKnot, I believe in God and celebrate holidays like Christmas and Easter, but I don’t really read the Bible or go to church. I didn’t really want to be a Christian or be very religious because it feels stressful to live under all of these rules of what not to do (obviously things like not killing, not stealing and stuff like that I get) and what to believe. I feel like it’s unfair to support straight people loving who they want to love, being in a relationship, but not supporting lgbtq+ people doing that. I know not supporting isn’t hating, most Christians on here that I know would never hate on them, I just feel like it’s unfair when you could end up finding out that you’re lgbtq+ yourself and wanting to be in a relationship, so I’d rather just not be a religious person.

@lucass_ Yeah, part of what turned me away from being a Christian (or at least identifying as one) is the hatred many of them have towards the LGBTQ+ community, other religions, and even each other. I still believe in Jesus' love and sacrifice, which is why I haven't completely let go, but the very nature of God, morality, and the afterlife (if there even is one) is something I'm currently exploring. How I figured it is if there is a God(s), for what reasons would I worship them? Would it be out of fear of divine punishment or damnation? Would it be for karma in the afterlife? Or would it be out of love and respect for what kind of being God really is? I would hope it would be the final category, which why I still believe in Jesus. The crux of his teachings and sacrifice is because he truly loved humanity to the point he would give up his divinity, and ultimately his life so we could all be saved. He talked and mingled with the sinful, the dregs of society, even when it put him at odds with society and his disciples. He lived a life of poverty, and never used his status as the son of God for gaining wealth. Whenever he would do something miraculous, it would for the sake of charity, such as feeding the hungry, and healing the sick and the grieving. This is the kind of God I want to worship. The God I would worship would never punish someone for the way they were born, who they love, the actions of those before them, or for simply believing in them differently, which is what puts me at odds with many of the Christians I grew up around.

I’m a Christian. For those struggling with what they believe I suggest watching The Case For Christ. It’s a very good movie. About a guy who doesn’t want to believe in God but eventually finds so much evidence pointing toward Christianity ✝️ enjoy!!!

@roundcat realized that i ain’t a very articulate person lol. but yeah same. i say i’m christian because i’m not worshiping other christians. the community of christians and those who i have conflictin beliefs with don’t define my faith or my morals.
