Hello Braceletbook friends!
There is an opportunity in my area to host a week long summer class at a community center in the art medium of your choice. I have been thinking about submitting a proposal to teach a class on how to make bracelets! The two age groups are 7-10 and 10-13. It’s been awhile since I have been a true “beginner”, so I’ve been having a difficult time trying to decide what an age appropriate, one week class would look like. 7-10 seems a little young to me to be able to really tie tight knots but I may be wrong! I think there are still solutions, like using yarn or beads.
While I continue to think about this and work on my class proposal I would love your input! When did you start making bracelets? What would be fun and not stressful to learn in a week as a 10-13 year old actively on summer break? Are there bracelet projects I could do with 7-10 year olds?
TIA everyone!

I started making macrame bracelets when I was around 6-7 but I started making more advanced normals when I was around 10.

I also learned how to make alphas when I was 13, so I think for the younger ages you could do some different variations of macrame bracelets and for the older ages you could do some of the simpler normal patterns like chevrons or basic heart patterns.

Honestly... I think 10-13 would be easier and they would be able to learn more advanced patterns than the younger group... But maybe that's my opinion because I learned how to make a candy stripe 2 months ago 🙈 I wish I would've started sooner but I honestly had no idea until my friend taught me!

Thank you everyone, your feedback has been very helpful! I am not sure if I will be chosen to lead a class for both age groups; I'm not sure if this is a competitive position or if they really need the help. I feel confident about my plan for the older group though!

I'm thinking that on the last day of class each student will be able to pick out an alpha keychain that I've already started for them (just to get the strings secured to the d hoop and such) that they can work on for as long as they need so they can continue to practice once the class is over! And it seems like this will be doable in a week 🙂

I started normals when I was 16, and started alpha’s only a few months ago (I’m 17). I started out with the chevron, and that might be a good one to start with because it’s not too hard, and you learn forward and backward knots. I think it’s a good class idea, and I hope it goes well 🙂
