So, I recently started to cross stitch some simple patterns and I find that they're faster and much less prone to errors than alphas. The whole "knot tension" thing doesn't apply on cross stitch and everything looks neater but it's a huge factor on alphas. It also saves more string! With that, what do you guys think about cross stitch? What makes you prefer to do alphas? I'm asking this because now I feel like I'm on an existential crisis regarding what to do. |

I actually just started cross stitching patterns about a week ago! I'm doing a whole collection as one big wall hanging and I really didn't feel like knotting them all so I dug out some of that grid material for cross stitching and here I am! It's turned into my chill comfort projectI'm not a giant embroidery fan but cross stitching as actually pretty relaxing. I did it years ago but dropped it when my project got a giant knot in it lol I'm doing those framed Zelda patterns in my to-dos as one big creation and I'm posting pictures of each pattern as I go. So my last picture will be of the whole thing |

I just realized that didn't really answer your question AT ALLI think I prefer cross stitching, in seeing other people's creations, and in doing it myself. Like you said, everything is just so much neater. But when people who are extremely talented with alphas post pictures of a pattern actually knotted, my mind is blown |

I've gotten into cross stitch and i prefer it so much compared to alphas for the same reasons you've mentioned, and also square patterns can remain square since stitches are exactly the same dimensions! With alphas they usually get kinda warped bc knots are different sizing. And I also like that i can go through 1 colour at a time, especially in patterns that have lots of alternating colours, I tend to get super confused when colour switching in alphas. I like cross stitching a lot more for wall hanging patterns, especially doing them on different sizes of cloth u can make them as big or as little as you like! And then I keep regular alphas for more personalised things like initial keychains |

@Zaan_13 and @Hylia224I see I'm not the only one that's been doing cross stitching. Thank you for your replies. I don't know anything anymore, I've poored quite a bit of time into alphas so I just feel bad about quitting them. Do you think it's worth it to keep doing alphas? |

ive done bits of cross stitiching over time, before i got into bracelets and such. Personally, i like them both - so why not do both? i might go back to cross stitching for a bigger alpha that i want to make, but keychains i make normal alphas

Aw no there's no need to fully quit knotting!! you can make alphas however you like, do some on aida and some as regular knots 😇 like i mentioned, i still prefer to do alphas for things like custom keychains so i can start them on keyrings, as well as named bracelets - so it's definitely up to you and what you think would work better for its intended purpose. but it's also fine if you haven't done alphas via knotting in a long time either. Don't think of it as quitting but rather that you're making them in a different way! |

Your alphas are beautiful! I know a lot more time and effort went into them than if they were cross stitched but just the fact that they turned out that nicely shows that you CAN do them nicelyLike past replies, I'd keep the actual knotting for smaller alphas like keychains and skinny bracelets. I don't think the material for cross stitching would fold over a keychain as nicely as a knotted alpha would anyways I wouldn't completely quit one part of a hobby just because you like how it looks another way But it's your call 💖 |

@leviOsa_09, @Zaan_13, @Hylia224 Thank you for your replies. I'll just see how it goes from now on. I'm currently trying to do an alpha that it's getting difficult to do, I'll try and complete it. Thank you for your help!
