@gaily_gal I never did this and you're also not supposed to do this.If you put a metal object with sharp edges into the microwave, sparks can form at these edges or even an electric arc can form connecting to the wall of the microwave which can cause damage to it. There seems to be an exception for putting a spoon into for example a cup of tea or a plate of soup, because it can help prevent the liquid from superheating. There are so many other microwave-safe items that you could put into your liquid, that I don't think there really is a need for putting something potentially unsafe into it. Superheating is when parts of the liquid are heated to above boiling point. This can happen, when a container with a smooth surface is used and the liquid in it is undisturbed. Bubbles of liquid that are above boiling point form inside the liquid and are held back by the surface tension. When you take the liquid out of the microwave and for example stir it, the surface tension is broken and the bubble above boiling point can finally expand. It turns into steam which will cause some of the liquid to be catapulted out of the container and potentially burn you. Wow, that was a long rant 😄 Here comes my question: Never have I ever forgotten my school back at school when I went home or at home when I went to school. |
