@Aerooooooo it wasn’t particularly difficult. The documents can be found online, but I was lucky to have an attorney to help me prepare the documents. Filing them came with a fee. In my state you have to publish an ad in the newspaper. I just walked over from the courthouse to the towns newspaper and paid them for an ad. They sent me the documentation. Then you having a hearing. As long as you’re not changing your name for fraud it’s easy. The judge just confirms your old name, new name, signs the paper and sends you down to the clerk to get certified copies

It’s part of the process in my state. You must have proof of publication, and that it was published at least 10 days before your court date. In any town, usually the town newspaper is in a close proximity to the courthouse. After you get everything filed, you can just walk on over and ask for a name change ad. You’ll pay the fee for that and give the paper your contact info so they can give you the proof of publication documents after they’ve published your ad.
