When I knot in public the only reactions I really get are people amazed that I can do it without messing up or getting distracted, along with the inevitable "Could you make me a bracelet?". I typically bring a safety pin in my jeans pocket (closed ofc) and pin what I'm working on to my pants so I can do it while I'm talking with others. I have ADHD so I'm always doing something with my hands, and it makes for a good conversation starter sometimes. I'd say if you're on the fence about it: go for it!
