Hi! I'm new here. I've been making friendship bracelets for ummm... a week? I'm really enjoying it. I've done lots of crafts over the years includng crochet, knitting, beadwork so I've been knotting strings and making bracelets for decades, but friendship bracelets are new to me! A friend brought me home a beaded bracelet from a recent trip to Mexico and it had a square knot adjustable slide closure that intrigued me. I wanted to make some and bought a bunch of beads and cords but the beads took a while to ship so I thought I'd just play with the cords and here I am! |

Hi! WELCOME TO THE COMMUNITY 🎉 🎉 🎉I first learned when I was 5 from my aunt, but I didn't pick it up again until the beginning of this year. I quickly became obsessed and I've learned so much! HOPE YOU STAY AROUND FOR A WHILE 😄 |

In the beggining of last year, I checked out this graphic novel from the schhool library In August of 2021 called Camp (It was amazing). And in the back of the book it had a candy stripe tutorial with pictures, so I figured I would try to make it. It turned out ABOSOLOUTLEY HORRIBLE lol. And I recently found it. Its. Something out of this world. I'll try to upload a pic of it. But after doind it, I sorta stopped and picked it up later, learning to make and read patterns

About 7-ish years ago, I got into embroidery (I was terrible) so we had all of our embroidery floss out, my parents kept suggesting that I try friendship bracelets while we had the string out. So once while my mom was making dinner, she taught my how to make a Chinese staircase. Soon after that she taught me how to do a candy stripe, and a little after that we got a book that had a few basic types of bracelets which I used for years. At some point I learned how to make backwards knots, but I don't remember when. Then while at summer camp one year, one of the counselors had a a keychain with a basic bordered chevron that had fb and bf knots in it which I didn't know existed at the time. A few months later we got another book that taught how to make fb and bf knots. One summer day I was crazy bored and started researching different types of friendship bracelets I could make and I came across a website that taught how to make #17932 I read a bit of the instructions, but mostly picked it up by myself. After knotting that pattern a few times, II tried segment knotting not realizing that other people had already come up with it. At the time I was searching for patterns, and saving them. Eventually I made an account on BraceletBook and here I am! Wow that was long 😂 |

when I was maybe 11 or 12 my grandpa gave me a klutz friendship bracelet making book for christmas and I got really into it, and then when I started going to summer camp I established myself as the fastest friendship bracelet maker there 😂 so many ppl asked me to make them bracelets so I ended up getting really good at it. I haven't made a lot of bracelets for a few years, but I've just got back into it!!

I first started when my cousin taught me how to make the candy stripe and I think maybe the chineses staircase too which was like 3-4 years ago. And I stopped doing it then cuz I didn't have any of my own supplise. And the last year at camp most the people were making easy friendship bracelets so one of my counselors tought me how to make the candy stripe and the chinese staircase again. Cuz I had completely no idea how to do it anymore. And now I way more advanced than any of the people at the camp. And I am going their again next month so I'll get to show them how far I have come.

i had gotten a pack of string for my birthday a few years prior to when i started last year, and i wanted to make pride merch because i discovered i was lesbian so i broke out the string and researched things to do with, it which is how i came across friendship bracelets. I started off with a chevron i made using Masha Knots' tutorial in lesbian flag colours (it turned out terrible) and i did those for a month or so before learning how to read patterns. So basically, being gay is how i started making friendship bracelets lol

I somehow stumbled upon a Masha Knots tutorial. After begging my mum to go to a local craft store and getting some threads, I started to try the tutorial and after a few attempts, finally understood how to do the knots. Turns out I had started with an intermediate pattern, but I picked it up pretty quickly. This was 2 and a bit years ago now and I've been doing it ever since! I just recently learnt how to do alphas, can't believe how long it took me 😂

My mother was a cross-stitcher when I was a child and still has a ton of floss. Last summer, I came across some TikToks and wanted to try it. It's now my go-to task while watching TV or just feel like I need something to do with my hands.

honestly it was completely random. in December 2022 I opened youtube and I saw a video in my homepage where a youtuber explained how to make the basic bracelets (like the candy stripe and the chevron). I thought “oh, cool!” and I taught myself how to knot. If I had opened youtube just a minute later I wouldn’t have discovered this community! (sorry if there are grammar/spelling errors but english isn’t my first language🙃)

Like 2 or three years ago I found a friendship bracelet book that showed how to make a few different patterns at a random garage sale

I was a summer camp when I was like 7 or 8 and there was a group of older kids sitting at a table making friendship bracelets and I was like oh cool I wanna do that too and I went over and they refused to teach me and told me to go away and they wouldn’t give me any string. (it belonged to the camp so everyone could use it) So I went home and my mom bought me a kit and I learned how (mostly self taught)

about 10 years ago, I went to a camp and they taught us and I have made bracelets over the last 10 years but I never really got to be a Pro because I didn’t try out more intricate designs and more difficult patterns but right now I’m getting really into it and hoping to share my experience with people who need some tips!

It was originally my siblings who found them online and wanted to make them, so my parents bought them embroidery thread. They made some, but got bored of them and that’s when I decided to make some lol.
