I’ve participated in a craft fair and sold wire jewellery and accessories. I’m a slow knotter so I would’ve priced my bracelets way « too much » for what they are. A big tip I can give you is , especially in smaller markets and during the inflation, people don’t spend money on handmade crafts that aren’t « useful ». The priciest item I sold was 5 €. But I still made profit and learned a lot about which products are most popular. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

Useful handmade crafts are towels, soaps,… But most of sales at the craft fair were made by Aliexpress resellers. People with high priced handmade stuff made 0.

Well you can’t make them useful but you can lower the price. How long does it take you to make a bracelet ? How much have you sold them before ?

@m0ss depends on the bracelet. i usually tend to sell thin (under 20 strings) alphas and i sell them for 5-10 dollars depending on length/color switch

What is the minimum wage for an hour in your country ? You’re still very generous like I spend 1 to 8 hours on one bracelet too and you sell them for 5 - 10 € when their worth is like 8-60€ when you’re paid minimum wage by hour where I live. If you can sell them with a negative profit like that then your pricing is low enough for post-inflation small craft markets.

it’s $7.50 @m0ss but i feel if i make ‘em pricier it won’t sell. if i do etsy, i’ll obviously raise prices so i make a profit but not that much…

@pablotimon That’s why I didn’t sell bracelets at the craft fair. I thought I was just too slow to sell and should practice more. Now I get that bracelets are always underpriced. Crochet handmade stuff isn’t stereotyped as what children do to pass time and get a bit of pocket money even though it’s quite similar. People don’t take bracelets seriously which is the reason why we need to underprice our work. Embroidery is more popular with the elderly crowd that is the main demographic at small craft fairs and since they embroidered and cross stitched when they were younger they understand the time it truly takes and are willing to pay a fairer price.

if you want a fee free website use ecwid! i use it and loveee it! the only downside to the 100% free plan is that it maxes out at 10 listings but you can edit & change them out! as for markets i 100% recommend them! i prefer particular markets such as a themed one or specialty market as people attending those are typically looking for something more unique and are willing/planning to spend a bit more money! i can send you my pricing structure if you’d like! 🫶🏼

@RE How to make bracelets "useful" (see discussion above)It's not really practibal because you would need an ungodly amount of patience and thread, but I always thought a knotted guitar strap could look awesome. But like I said, that's not really a feasable length for knotting ' but maybe think among those lines? Maybe something that needs a strap? Or make very short pieces that could function as a zipper-handle. |
