i plan to come out to my former teacher/family friend as either nb or lesbian tomorrow but i’m not sure how. she’s supportive, but doesn’t know a lot about lgbtq. i’m scared, but tired of being in the closet and she’s my most trusted adult. i would appreciate any help. i think i’ll stick with just telling her i’m lesbian for now, but i’m not totally sure if that’s a better idea than doing non-binary first. i’ll update this when i tell her, but idk if i will or if i’ll be too scared. she’s very supportive and would absolutely never tell my parents anything i told her not to. she’s just older and doesn’t really understand some more modern concepts of gender. (she’s 66)

Maybe start talking abt someone she knows who is nb or lesbian. Be like, hey you know that actress or singer or smthng...like educate her about it before you tell her about yourself? Idk I hope this helps 😄Just know I'm always here for you 😊 ❤️ 🔥 👍

I've never been in the closet because my entire family is feminist and I grew up listening to my cousin say that she wanted to marry Mon Laferte, but I can say that since my parents know that I'm queer (I was 12, it was 3 years ago), they made a big effort to understand lgtbq+ concepts and what was happening inside me. I recognize I'm lucky because I've never seen it as a big deal, but I you don't feel 150% safe telling someone that you're nb/lesbian and you don't need it, just don't. The most important thing is your own safety and you're the only one who decides what risks you can afford to take, the consequences of what you decide may feel awkward but they will end up somewhere better for everyone. There are millions of ways to come out, you have probably seen a lot on internet, no matter witch one you choose I think that slowest you go, the safest and the easiest it gets to go back. |
