Hi! Just wanted to know whether you all buy string in bulk, like lots and lots of colours at once, or if you choose what pattern you do next, and then buy the exact colours you need for it?I bought in bulk when I started and still haven't run out, but I'm sometimes stuck using colours I would not have chosen had I had something darker/lighter/less saturated/etc. What's your experience? |

I have gotten a lot of my string for free because people gave it to me. But if I don’t have a color I want I often go out and buy it. So I think if I had started with no string I would have bought on bulk and then just buy colors I liked/ needed as I needed them. Not sure if this was helpful at all or not but thought I would still share anyways!!

I buy the string colors I use most often in bulk, but when I need specific colors, I'll make a Michael's run or use the DMC website for specific colors. So pretty similar to what ArtsyAnna said!

A lot of my thread I bought at estate sales, so I have a bunch of different colors that usually have DMC color codes. Also every time I go to Michael's I just pick out DMC threads that I like. But I do buy black and white in bulk packs.

@narcissa3 oh wow, estate sales? That seems like a one-in-a-lifetime chance, but maybe I need to keep my eyes open. I always thought that was only a thing for antique dealers and real-estate agents!

A lot of them have craft supplies, but there is usually a lot more yarn or fabric, but I've gotten lucky a few times. 😊
