I have been considering going vegetarian, and I didn’t know if anyone had any tips like recipes, how to get enough protein, etc. thanks!

i was vegetarian for 2 years i think? and i still am mostly vegetarian, i have to eat meat every couple weeks for medical reasons 🙁 but for protein and stuff, meat replacements are your best friend! most of them (the good ones) are made specifically to try and replace the protein and iron and stuff you’re missing out on by not eating meat. try and look for ones that say on the packaging they have high iron and high protein! B12 is also pretty important. there are lots of different types and it can be scary to try figure it all out lol, and you’ll probably have to try some different ones to find ones you like. i personally love quorn products, but i have a few others i like as well. and u can make it interesting, like i used to get vegan “chicken” schnitzels and make like parmigiana 🙂 most of my meals were just my normal meals i liked, but with meat replacements! aside from that eggs are really good for protein, green vegetables are great for iron, as is liquorice. i didn’t like them so idk the best ones but like legumes and lentils and stuff are apparently great for protein and stuff as well! u could also try like protein bars occasionally, just to get a bit extra. anyway this is getting super long sorry 😂 but yeh if you research what exactly you’ll be missing out on by giving up meat, you can find other foods to replace it. my big problem was iron so definitely watch out for that and if you start feeling tired and fatigued it could be an issue

Hi! I've been veg for 11 years 😊 I also agree with all of what spyderwebs said! Alternative meats like quorn etc are great substitues, as well as leafy greens for iron and legumes for added protein. In terms of supplements, Omega 3-6-9 is another important one to include and there are vegan versions out there if you won't wanna take the regular fish oil.

A few things I alwaysss have stocked since turning veg are oats, spinach, peanut butter, beans, protein snacks, greek yogurt, tofu and alt meat. Smoothies are a really good way to include nutrients and imo they don't keep you full as long compared to a proper meal so you're able to have them basically as a snack. Oats are also SO versatile for different dishes - blended oats as flour in pancakes/baked goods, oatmeal, overnight oats - the possibilities are endless lol.

If you search for any high protein meals or even veg versions of your fave meals you should also be able to find some go-to dishes that you can enjoy while you start to cut out meat from your diet 😊 good luck! 🌱

I’m pescatarian, but i primarily eat a vegetarian diet with fish as a supplement that i eat around once a week. Being vegetarian is great, especially since there’s so much flexibility with what you can eat. just make sure to keep your protein levels at normal with beans and nuts, especially if you work out a lot. that’s part of the reason why i’m not a full vegetarian, because im not the world’s biggest fan of beans, but overall, see if works for you and your lifestyle. maybe talk to your doctor about it as well, because for some people, going completely vegetarian is in-advisable, but overall you should be fine!

ive been vegetarian since i was seven, never missed it
any fake-meat is usually pretty good, but then i dont like the ones that actually taste like it

also 7 year old me did not consider anything, i just didnt want to eat my meat at dinner and therefore turned vegetarian. never missed it at all

but there are so many meals where you can just cut out the meat, change it w some substitutes maybe twice a week for your body to keep working, if youre at a place where you cant eat subs or anything just double the vegetables and hope for the best

if you dont live in the US and actually have healthcare, get bloodtested every 2-4 years just to be sure, and just make sure you get enough iron. eat a spoon for all i care (dont)

but for the recipes: hamburger? now a sub. spaggeti bolognese? change the meat to a sub. anything that would normally have meat? sub.
not too many bc they are kinda pricey for what ive seen, but if you normally eat meat 1-2 times a week i think it wouldnt make that much of a differnce
