Hi!I know I’m thinking about this really early, but I’ll find it interesting and I worry about my future a lot. So I was thinking, I want to be a stay at home mom when I’m older. My mom has taught me that I can’t count on my future husband to have a good job that’ll support the both of us. If I wasn’t a stay at home mom, I would like to be some sort of doctor. The problem is that the schooling is expensive and takes a long time. If I were to go through that all, I would want to actually be a doctor. I would rather be a stay at home mom though. Anyways, I know I’m early thinking about this, but it would really help calm my nerves if I could get some advice! Thanks! @bsoftball PS: feel free to share what you do as a living! |

It's always good to consider things and see where your interests lie early on! E.g. I thought I wanted to be a doctor when I was like 14 but then when I started studying biology I realised I don't like the subject so I changed my mind immediately😅 And then I have lots of friends who wanted to study medicine since they were also 14 and now they are actual doctors!! So it's all about your preferences and ofc commitment to everything in the long run. I'm a good example of someone who never really had a clear career goal in mind. I had subjects I liked a lot and then looked into careers that use them heavily. I currently work with a lot of data / programming, and I make digital maps! I didn't study any sort of IT / Geography in high school (didn't like it back then tbh), but this is something that I LOVE doing😊 There's also nothing wrong with being a SAHM, the main thing is making sure you're in a proper relationship where your spouse is reliable and financially stable. But that's wayyy in the future haha, although it's good to know your worth as well as your expectations in a relationship - and knowing that will ensure that you won't settle! I would say that it is worth having some sort of qualification or skill at least in case you do become a SAHM, because it'd be beneficial if you ever decide at some point you're interested in working. You do have a LOT of time til you plan out your future / career goals but if you're truly interested in medicine and becoming a doctor then keep that interest!! 😄 😄 |

I have so many things that I want to be so I wish you could just change careers in the middle of your life but all the schooling is so expensive. 😡😡

Ok so i think being a stay at home mom is cool. That's what my mom currently does. But I would suggest doing a side thing to bring in extra income too. Like if you're thinking you're gonna continue making bracelets through to then I would have a super-small business. Nothing huge or expensive or even online. Just like a flyers on public boards and stuff and selling to people you already know

@sftball011 it's ironic, because I came here to say to just try things out and change whenever you feel like it. Because that's how I did it, and now I have a couple of uni degrees and a job that I really like. Whereas when I would have just stuck with my first field of study.... not so much.I assume you're in the US, or do other countries also make you pay for school and university? If you are in the US, then I've always wondered: Wouldn't it be an option to study abroad? The move will probably be expensive, but not even a tenth as expensive as university in the US. |

I want to live in a house in Northern Maine with a Rottie a Golden, and a cat. I want the attic to be my bedroom and I want to work from home as a writer or artist (:

I'm really interested in non-profit work, specifically organizations that provide resources for LGBTQIA+ folks. As someone who was made homeless because of homophobia, it would be especially meaningful work for me to help address the endemic of queer youth homelessness. |
