What if you were to ask for just 20 to 30 extra minutes every day? I know you don’t want a limit at all but I think that if you were to show them over time that you’re responsible with it, they’ll be more confident with you having more freedom. You could say that you’ll still only use your screentime after chores and school and everything else is done, and with extra screentime they can give you more responsibility? Like you can promise to do extra dishes or help cook dinners a couple days a week / set the table?

And if you were to ever mess up he can take it away completely for a day or two? And you can promise that grades will stay up and every expectation will be met, if not you can be grounded for a certain amount of time, or the limit can go all the way down to 25 minutes a day, and 50 minutes on weekends.

@Kiwi_art ok, thank you! Those sound like good ideas. I’ve asked for a little more time everyday, but I haven’t thought of the part where I have to do something in return for it.

maybe you're limited because they feel like there's enough you're seeing/hearing about/learning when you're not around them and they still want to have some control over what you do, or they go through your history to make sure you're not watching/reading anything bad and they don't want to have hours and hours to go through. Maybe they want you to play with friends while you're a still a kid and have actual experiences and conversations that aren't just quick 5-word texts/video chats or whatever. Maybe they're hoping you won't end up like them spending so much time on screens. Maybe they feel like as a kid you shouldn't have any absolutely pressing things that need to get done in more time than just a half hour/hour or so. maybe they want you to appreciate and be grateful for what time you get and that smartphones and similar technology even exist now. Maybe they're worried about your eyes. staring a lot at screens can cause headaches and damage your eyes. there's blue light glasses you can get that supposedly help though in general looking at screens isn't really good for you. They might not have been raised with lots of technology (or just before technology got as far as it's come today) so they remember all kids before phones really took over and want your childhood to be like that. Maybe they've had bad experiences with other people and their phones. I've been around people who are constantly on their phones doing stuff and not really paying attention to the people around trying to interact with them. They may just not want you to be like that. |

I have a screen time limit (it was 15 mins but now it’s an hour) I would recommend asking them to take it off temporarily and then if they think u are on ur phone too much then they can put it back on. If they did this then u could tell them it would make you more responsible and it gives u a chance to prove that u can manage ur screen time

Here’s a tip to anyone that has YouTube blocked. Download Musi it’s a free app that has all YouTube videos on it. And for your screen time I would just wait until your a bit older bc it doesn’t seem like they will give you more time. Maybe ask for you next birthday and prove you responsible (clean up around the house, get good grades, etc) I’m really sorry you have this! I wish the best for you💛
