Hi! So this is all about junior guards, so I’m going to explain what that is first in case you don’t know what it is. It is basically a popular beach program where you run, swim, learn to surf, learn survival techniques, CPR, and much more. You have to take a test to get in. Depending on your age group you have to swim 100m in a certain time. I have to do it in under 1:40. I’m not a very strong swimmer and I’m the younger in my age troop this year. Basically I’ve been preparing for this for months as have many of my friends and I’ve made sacrifices to fit in practice. I was able to get it in 1:37 and I was super happy. Last weekend I had the test and right before I freaked out. I have anxiety and asthma. I started to feel like I couldn’t breathe and was going to throw up. I did the test and got 1:47. I was devastated and crying. This year I was only able to do session 2 because we are busy during session 1. The way it is decided by what session you are in is by pulling out of a hat. The people who are picked earlier have a higher chance to get their first choice. Once all the spots of your first choice are filled they move onto your next choices. I only have friends who are definitely going to be in session 2. And they are for sure going to get their first choice which is also mine. (They did it last year, so they are guaranteed to get their first pick.) I’m worried that if I get in i with no friends I will have too much anxiety. There is possibly another way for me to redo the test. If I do it and don’t get my first choice, my parents will make me do it anyways because they would have to ask a favor to make it work. Should I do it and risk it? Thanks for taking the time to read this! |
