Hey just curious if anyone here is from Germany, or if anyone speaks German?I am German and Dutch, but my whole family lives in the US. So I grew up hearing random phrases in German from my extended family. Just recently I have committed to learning German, and I was wondering if you may have any tips for learning the language? Or if anyone would be ok with me messaging you if I have any specific questions? I would be extremely grateful, since I don’t know anyone who is fluent in German. I’ve wanted to learn this language for years, since it’s a huge part of my family’s heritage. |

Hi, I'm fluent 😄 so if you have any questions, feel free to ask me.I learned English in school but I only became more fluent when I started being online more. For me watching YouTube videos and reading fanfiction where two things that helped improve my English a lot. So maybe you could do that for German too. Here are some of my favourite German YouTube channels -Malwanne: she does advent calendar unboxings which I think is always fun, she has a series called "cocktails die ballern" where she competes with her friends to make the best cocktails, a series called "wie schmeckt's" where she cooks and bakes food from popular books and tv shows to test out how it tastes -Malternativ: he also does advent calendar unboxings, he's got lots of reaction videos which are always very funny -coldmirror: she has a series called "5 Minuten Harry Podcast" where in each episode she breaks down 5 minutes of the first Harry Potter movie, a series called "Diverse Kack Produktbeschreibungen" where she reads out badly translated product descriptions (this one is probably not useful for you but incredibly funny) -SPACE FROGS -Annikazion: does reaction videos -Die Frage, PULS reportage, reporter, TRU DOKU, STRG_F, follow me.reports, Y-Kollektiv: those are all documentary channels -offen un' ehrlich: they expose scams in a funny way Not all of the channels might be watchable for you because especially the ones in the last two sections are produced by German tv and they might be geoblocked in other countries. |

@halokiwi your list is a savior for me atm. Thank you 🤗 I'm living in Germany since almost 2 years, but worked mostly with English speaking people. Last January got pretty bad accident and was struggling like hell to comunicate with a hospital staff. Now it's better, but I need to totally change my work field, so fluent German is my 2022 goal. |

I know many people already messaged you but I'm also German and I would like to help you out a little. Of course the best way to learn a new language is to listen to it a lot. Watch German videos and maybe some films or series. Read something German. Talk to German people online, I'm sure someone is gonna help you since there are a lot of German people that are pretty good at English. I hopp you have a lot of fun learning German |

I have German traits mostly on my mom’s side but a little on my dad’s side too. I know very little German though. My grandma knew some Pennsylvania Dutch (sounds kinda like 1800’s German) and taught me a song in Pennsylvania Dutch but I can’t write down the words.
